From time immemorial the fire of commerce has driven every civilization. It is the foundation upon which human advancement has been built on. These stages of civilization and how commerce supplied their building blocks will be highlighted in another article. In this information technology age, this is even ever so true but many failed to see it as so and hence are missing countless genuine opportunities daily to build wealth.
Many still treat the internet as a mere media. Calling the internet the online media is, in fact, misleading because it is much more than that. I will call it the new world in as much the same sense the Europeans who discovered America called it the new world. Europeans migrated to the new world and built for themselves and their progenitors a fresh and new civilization separate from that of European kingdoms.
The internet has evolved into a new world bringing with it a new kind of civilization unprecedented since the foundation of the world. The internet is creating a whole new economy built on the same value and principle of commerce in the real world. Real Estate as a veritable wealth base is fast being overtaken by virtual Estates. Brick and Mortar shops are fast being replaced by virtual shops.
In Nigeria and indeed most of Africa we still see and treat the internet as just a media when our contemporaries in other climes see it as the virtual world. Many people today see the internet as a media to hang out with friends no matter the distance which is partly correct. Some see it as a media as a platform for expressing themselves which is also partially true. Others see social media as a place to advertise their wares which could be correct if they go about it in the proper way.
The internet must be approached from a holistic perspective to begin to maximize it for building fortunes which many have already. If you have not perfected the art of hanging out with friends and loved ones on the social media you should not think about advertising your wares on it because you will be frustrated unless otherwise, you hire a sound Social media professional to do that for you.
